Inferno Will Eades

Shot off the Australian coast of New South Wales, ‘Inferno’ by photographer Will Eades is an enthralling investigation into the miracles of weather and testimony to the sublime moment when patience, luck and magic converge to produce the perfect nature photograph.

This arresting grainy image of roiling thunder clouds epitomises the high drama often seen in the photographer’s work incorporating many of the factors which create a gripping encounter for the viewer. We get to participate in a moment, offered the opportunity to experience this instance of serendipity, and witness a gladiatorial event as swirling turbulent thunder clouds, glowing with their own kinetic energy, lash the vast open ocean with pelting rain. The image’s power allows us to almost hear the sounds, to feel the icy gale-force winds, and taste the salt being blasted through the air. Confronted with this electric scene of giants, beyond our scope to control, it’s impossible not to reflect back upon ourselves, and see our smallness when compared to these titanic forces nature.
